Charcoal Boxing Gloves  I  Carmit Hassine

The piece gives a new interpretation to the substitution of the soft material the gloves are made of, which is both hard and brittle. The discussion of the charcoal's materiality delves into the duality of the object, originated from the field of martial arts. An object associated with assault and pain transformed and exposes conceptual disintegration through the disintegration of matter.

Made to fit a child's hand, the glove invites the younger generation to a discussion.  On one hand, it points to the destructive nature of violence, and on the other, calls to fight it and emphasizes the need for a change.

The choice of charcoal also implies hope, attesting to man's infinite ability to stand up against injustices, and to heal repeatedly like the phoenix rising from the ashes.
